Astro Blog | Education is the Key to Loyalty

An educated customer is your best customer. They are interested in nutrition, health, and enrichment when it comes to their pets. They typically feed high-quality foods like raw and other species-appropriate bioavailable diets, and they incorporate supplements into their pets’ nutrition routines. They do their research, they ask questions, and they are more likely to shop local!

When you contribute to the education of your customers, you empower them while establishing yourself as a source of knowledge. As your customers’ wisdom grows they become pet nutrition ambassadors in their communities and they can’t help but spread your gospel of holistic health to their friends and family. This results in word-of-mouth referrals for your store delivered by pet people who know what they are talking about, and who consider you their teacher.

On the Astro Loyalty Blog you will find Loyalty in Action articles that are full of information relating to pet lifestyle, adoption, health/nutrition, and fun-facts; as well as Natural/Holistic Pet Care articles focusing more intently on topics related to holistic wellness.

Industry News

As a member of the pet industry, we are saddened any time we see a pet store decide to close their doors, especially now that we are all working so hard to stay afloat during this pandemic.

“Pet Valu, Inc. (“Pet Valu U.S.”), a specialty retailer of pet food and supplies in the United States, today [11/04/2020] announced plans to commence a wind-down of its operations due to severe impact from COVID-19. The Company expects that all of its 358 stores and warehouses in the Northeastern and Midwestern U.S., as well as its corporate office in Wayne, PA, will close by the end of the wind-down process.”

The silver lining for Pet Valu, Inc is that Pet Valu Canada is in no way impacted by this wind-down. Pet Valu, Inc. has stated that its US stores will continue to serve their customers during the wind-down process. But we can surmise that once that wind-down is complete there will be pet owners in your community without a pet store to serve their needs and that void will need to be filled. These pet owners will need to get their pet supplies from someone, we want that someone to be you – not big-box corporations or online beasts.

Offer your help to those in your community who are realizing that they will soon be without a pet store. Another thing to consider is whether there are any vacant employee positions at your store; are you able to offer a new job to someone who is losing theirs? In the end, it all boils down to helping one another when things get tough, and when done sincerely everyone wins and no one is left in the dark.
