November 17th: National Black Cat Day is dedicated to giving our black kitties some deserved PR. This is a time to share some fun facts about black cats while encouraging black cat adoption in your area. Here’s a fun fact for ya; in Scotland, Britain, and Japan, the presence or appearance of a black cat is indicative of imminent good fortune and prosperity. Sharing the Love is a great program to promote this holiday, along with cat-themed Astro Offers. Don’t forget to show your love to black cats everywhere with a fun post on your social media. Ask your customers to share pics of their black kitties #NationalBlackCatDay

November 17th: National Take a Hike Day is all about getting outside and exploring nature! Think about what your customers will need to enjoy a fun and safe hike with their dogs. Create a fun display with backpacks, water bottles, trail snacks, bug spray, hiking shoes, safety lights, etc; from brands like Ruffwear and EzyDog.
Send a campaign or create a social media post with links to trail guide apps, and provide your own trail tips; or if you’re a hiking buff share some of your favorite trails in your area. This holiday also ties into one of the monthly holidays, Pet Cancer Awareness Month, and one of their events. CLEAR (Canine Lymphoma Education Awareness & Research) has started a virtual 5k run/walk – CLEAR’s Jog for Dogs 2020! Participants will be able to run, jog, bike or walk a 5k anywhere, any time, between November 1 and December 31.

November 18th: National Princess Day is a holiday we couldn’t resist celebrating. It is pure fun and just begging for someone fun like you to host a digital costume contest on either your store’s Facebook or Instagram! Give your customers some prompts like, “Do you have a little Princess at home? How about a Diva? We would love it if you would sashay over to Facebook and post a pic of your pet. Share a story in your post about what makes them a Princess, or a Diva.
Tag our Facebook page in your post, @[nameOfYourFacebook], and hashtag it #PupPrincess or #DoggieDiva. A SPECIAL PRIZE will go to the two posts with the most likes. One Princess and one Diva.” Get your staff and the shop dogs in on the fun to get the ball rolling and get ready for internet gold!

November 19th: National Camp Day is another holiday this week that calls us to enjoy the great outdoors (or you can pitch a tent in your backyard like you did when you were a kid). For this holiday you can put together a display showcasing supplies that will make camping with their dogs comfier; such as sleeping mats like the Big Sky Nap by West Paw, natural bug sprays, travel bowls for food and water, and hiking gear like backpacks and water bottles. Then you can answer the big question, what will my dog eat while we’re roughing it? Raw feeders will appreciate the suggestion of dehydrated foods like The Honest Kitchen or freeze-dried diets by brands like Primal Pet Foods, which are easy to prepare when your out in the woods. While kibble feeders will be stoked about kibble containers such as the Kibble Kaddie by Ruffwear (the leaders in outdoor gear for dogs) to transport their pup’s meals.

Black Friday (27th), Small Business Saturday (28th), and Cyber Monday (30th) are right around the corner! We have added several images to the Astro Image Library under My Promotions, Buttons and Banners, and Holiday. Templates and additional materials will be available next week. Check your Astro Offers to make sure you enrolled in the Flash Sales – there’s a bunch of ’em. Then check your inventory to make sure you have those qualifying items in stock. If there was a brand you were curious about trying, and you notice they have a Flash Sale available, now is the time to do it!
